Vanilla Ice Cream

Blending vanilla ice cream into cocktails is basically cheating — it makes everything taste incredible with zero effort. A scoop or two turns a Mudslide into a frozen dessert that happens to contain vodka and Kahlúa. It works in boozy milkshakes with bourbon, in Grasshoppers, and in Brandy Alexanders when you want the frozen version. Use a decent brand with real vanilla — Häagen-Dazs or similar — because the cheap stuff is mostly air and guar gum. Let it soften slightly before blending for a smoother result.
