Vanilla Extract

A few drops of vanilla extract in a cocktail does more than you’d think. It rounds out the sharp edges of vodka, smooths bourbon, and adds warmth to cream-based drinks. Use real vanilla extract, not imitation — the flavor difference is obvious in something as simple as a Vanilla Martini. A quarter teaspoon per drink is the sweet spot; more than that and it takes over. You can also make vanilla simple syrup by adding a split bean to your syrup while it cools. Works especially well alongside coffee, chocolate, and citrus flavors.
