Tomato Juice

Tomato juice exists in cocktails for one reason: the Bloody Mary. Okay, also the Michelada and the Red Snapper (the gin version). Quality matters here — Sacramento and Campbell’s are fine, but Zing Zang or fresh-pressed tomato juice take your Bloody Mary from decent to memorable. Season it yourself with horseradish, Worcestershire, hot sauce, celery salt, and black pepper rather than relying on pre-made mixes. Thick, pulpy juice works better than thin watery stuff. Serve over ice in a tall glass and go wild with the garnish — bacon, pickles, shrimp, whatever you’ve got.
