Spiced Rum

Spiced rum is rum flavored with spices like cinnamon, vanilla, clove, and nutmeg. Captain Morgan is far and away the dominant brand, though Sailor Jerry and Kraken have carved out loyal followings. It’s most commonly mixed with Coke or ginger beer, and it works well in warm drinks like hot buttered rum and spiked cider. The spice profiles vary widely between brands — some are heavy on vanilla, others lean into the cinnamon. At its best, spiced rum adds warmth and complexity; at its worst, it tastes like someone dumped a candle into the bottle.
