Peach Schnapps Cocktails: 14 Drinks From the Bottle Nobody Finishes

Almost everyone we know owns a bottle of peach schnapps and almost nobody knows why. It arrives for one recipe — usually a Fuzzy Navel or a Sex on the Beach at a party years ago — and then it sits.

We think that’s a waste, because it does one thing genuinely well that no other bottle on a home shelf does.

The job it does

Peach schnapps is a bridge. It’s sweet, low-proof by liqueur standards, and its flavor sits in an unusual place — stone fruit with a slight floral edge — that lets it connect spirits and juices that otherwise clash.

Vodka and cranberry is thin and sharp. Add peach schnapps and it rounds out. Tequila and sour mix is aggressive. Add peach schnapps and it softens without going flat. That’s the job, and it’s why the bottle shows up in so many builds where it isn’t the headline flavor.

The corollary is that it rarely works as the star. Drinks built mostly of peach schnapps taste like candy, which is fine at a party and tiring anywhere else.

The ones everyone knows

Extra Fuzzy Navel — triple sec, peach brandy, peach schnapps. The original Fuzzy Navel is just peach schnapps and orange juice; this version doubles down on the peach and adds citrus lift, which makes it considerably more interesting than the two-ingredient version people usually make.

Fuzzy Leprechaun #2 — peach schnapps, melon liqueur, orange juice. A Fuzzy Navel with melon liqueur in it, which turns it a startling green and adds a honeydew note underneath the peach.

Peach Blaster — peach schnapps and cranberry juice, and nothing else. Two ingredients, over ice, in a tall glass. This is our house answer when somebody wants a drink and we want to stop working.

The vodka builds

Vodka is peach schnapps’s most natural partner because it contributes structure without competing on flavor.

Homicidal Maniac — vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry-apple juice. Better than the name suggests. The apple in the juice picks up the stone-fruit note and extends it.

Jamaican Sunrise — orange juice, vodka, cranberry, peach schnapps. Build this in a tall glass and pour the cranberry last down the side; it sinks and gives you the gradient the name promises.

Peach Beseech — peach schnapps, vodka, white crème de cacao, milk. A dessert drink, and a good one. The cacao and the peach together read as something close to a peach melba.

The one people miss

Peach Margarita — tequila, peach schnapps, sweet and sour, grenadine.

We put this in its own section because it’s the most useful thing in the list and almost nobody makes it. Peach and blanco tequila is a genuinely good pairing — the vegetal edge of the agave sits underneath the fruit rather than fighting it — and this build is what we reach for in late summer when the peaches at the market are better than the ones in the bottle.

Use fresh sweet and sour if you can. Equal parts lemon juice and simple syrup, five minutes of work, and the difference is not subtle. We wrote out the reasoning in our sweet and sour guide.

Everything else

That last one is the odd entry in the list and worth trying if you like an amaro — the bitter lemon and the herbal liqueur pull the peach somewhere quite grown-up.

Storage

Peach schnapps sits around 15–20% ABV depending on the brand, which is low enough that it is not indefinitely stable the way a spirit is. An opened bottle holds its flavor well for a year or two in a cool cupboard and then flattens rather than spoiling. Ours live in the fridge door, which slows that down and makes them nicer to pour.
