Ginger
Fresh ginger root adds a spicy, warming kick that dried ginger powder just can’t replicate. Peel it and muddle thin coins into cocktails, or juice it for a cleaner result — a centrifugal juicer works great for this. It’s the foundation of a proper homemade ginger beer syrup and works beautifully in Penicillin cocktails (Scotch, lemon, honey-ginger syrup). Grate it into simple syrup for an easy upgrade. Pair it with bourbon, dark rum, or whisky for warming fall drinks. Store unpeeled root in the freezer — it actually grates easier frozen.
