Pro tip: No ice touches this one, so freeze the glasses along with the schnapps. Warm peach schnapps is where it goes wrong.

Bruised Heart

Vodka, cranberry, Chambord, and peach schnapps, half an ounce each. Raspberry and peach together, with enough cranberry to keep it from going flabby. See recipe

Pro tip: Stir it over ice and strain rather than shaking. Shaken, the cranberry clouds up and the deep red turns pink.

Pro tip: Fresh lime only. Rose’s is sweetened and turns this into peach syrup, which defeats the point.

If you’re missing a bottle

Fruity shooters care about the flavor family, not the label.

No Chambord: any black raspberry liqueur (DeKuyper Razzmatazz, Sour Puss Raspberry) in the Grape Crush, Purple Hooter, Silk Panties, or Bruised Heart. A touch thinner, same color.
No Midori: DeKuyper or Bols melon liqueur. Midori runs sweeter than most, so the Melon Ball and Scooby Snack may want an extra splash of juice.
No peach schnapps: Southern Comfort in the Woo Woo or the Sex on the Beach shot. It runs 70 proof to schnapps’ 30 to 48, so pour a little less. Apricot brandy is the closer flavor match.
No Malibu: white rum plus a bar spoon of cream of coconut, or a coconut vodka. The Surfer on Acid and Scooby Snack lose a little sweetness, nothing else.
No sweet and sour mix: equal parts fresh lemon juice and simple syrup, shaken. Better than the bottle every time.
