Creme de Cacao

Don’t let the name fool you — there’s no cream in creme de cacao. It’s a clear (or dark) chocolate-flavored liqueur that’s been sweetening cocktails since the 1800s. You’ll need it for a Brandy Alexander and a Grasshopper, where it pairs with cream and creme de menthe. The white (clear) version won’t change your drink’s color, while the dark version adds a brown tint. Tempus Fugit makes an outstanding craft version, though Giffard and DeKuyper work fine for mixing. At around 25% ABV, it’s sweet enough to double as a dessert on its own.
