Black Pepper
A few cracks of fresh black pepper can transform a cocktail from ordinary to memorable. It’s a classic finish on a Bloody Mary but also shows up in modern drinks paired with strawberry, grapefruit, or tequila. Some bartenders make black pepper tinctures or syrups to get the spice without the grit. The key is using freshly cracked — pre-ground pepper has about half the punch and none of the aroma. Try rimming a glass with cracked pepper and salt for a savory Margarita variation.
