Beer

Mixing beer into cocktails has a long history — the Michelada combines beer with lime, hot sauce, and Clamato, while a Shandy is just beer and lemonade. A Black and Tan layers stout over pale ale, and a Boilermaker pairs a beer with a shot of whiskey on the side. For cocktails, lighter beers like pilsners and wheat beers mix more easily than hoppy IPAs, which can turn bitter when combined with citrus. Ginger beer, by the way, is a completely different thing — it’s a non-alcoholic (usually) mixer used in Moscow Mules.
