Aperol

That bright orange Aperol Spritz you see everywhere in summer? It starts with this Italian bitter liqueur. Aperol is Campari’s friendlier, less bitter sibling — lower in alcohol at 11% ABV and sweeter, with flavors of orange and rhubarb. The Spritz recipe is practically a meme at this point: three parts Prosecco, two parts Aperol, one part soda, garnished with an orange slice. It was created in Padua back in 1919 but didn’t blow up globally until the 2010s. Great gateway into the world of Italian amari.
