Amaretto Almond Liqueur

Despite the almond flavor, most amaretto is actually made from apricot pits — the same compound that gives almonds and marzipan their distinctive taste. Disaronno is the most famous brand, recognizable by its square bottle. Mix it with bourbon for an Amaretto Sour (add an egg white if you’re feeling fancy), or pour it into coffee as a dessert drink. It’s sweet at around 28% ABV, so it pairs well with sour citrus or bitter coffee. The liqueur traces its legend back to 1525 Saronno, Italy, though the modern recipe is considerably newer.
